On this day in Pro Wrestling history on July 23, 1989, Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling aired ‘NWA The Great American Bash 1989: The Glory Days’ LIVE on PPV from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
This was the 5th edition of WCW’s annual The Great American Bash events, although the 1986 & 1987 Great American Bash events were actually tours of several shows with the best matches making it to the VHS’, that made them being presented like 1 big event in both years, even though they weren’t.
There was no Great American Bash in 1993 & 1994, but after WCW was sold to the World Wrestling Federation in 2001, Vince McMahon brought the pay-per-view back in 2004 under the WWE banner.

• WWE Wrestler Wanted To Do A Parody Of Edge & Lita’s Live $ex Celebration On RAW
WWE played out an angle last year, where Drake Maverick was trying to consummate his marriage with his wife, Renee Michelle, but he never succeeded in doing so.
While speaking to Metro, Maverick (who’s now in NXT) revealed that he pitched an idea to have a segment with his wife, mocking Edge and Lita’s live $ex celebration. However, the idea wasn’t accepted.
Below is what he said:
“The one I pitched was the live consummation celebration which was supposed to be a spoof on the Edge and Lita one, which was very PG but you could imagine Drake Maverick stripping off for his wife, trying to take his pants off and falling over, then getting back up like it didn’t happen.’”
