Below are some top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, involving the Worlds End PPV and Mick Foley.
• WWE Hall of Famer & current AEW commentator Jim Ross provided a health update on the “Grilling JR” podcast, sharing that he continues to take insulin shots and adhere to his diet.
Ross mentioned concerns about blurred vision and expressed gratitude for fan support. He noted that prescribed medicines are working, and mentally, he feels competitive again. While uncertain about his future at All Elite Wrestling, he appreciates the fans’ feedback.
Ross expressed a desire to return to work at AEW sooner than later, mentioning the pay-per-view in Long Island (AEW Worlds End on December 30) as a potential target. However, he emphasized ongoing health issues that need addressing and the difficulty in planning due to the unpredictable nature of his recovery.
Despite the challenges, Ross affirmed his love for the wrestling business and expressed a need to remain involved, citing the void left by the passing of his wife, Jan.
Travel difficulties were acknowledged, but Ross sees Worlds End as a goal, contingent on Tony Khan’s decision and doctor’s approval.
• During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Mick Foley revealed what CM Punk said to him after Royal Rumble 2014, which was Punk’s last WWE event of his first run.
Here’s what Foley said:
“I remember getting a text from Punk when he left after the Rumble. He was upset, and he and I were pretty close back then; he said, ‘I’ve realized the only way to really make it there, to earn your respect, is to go somewhere else, and then come back’.
He did. It was what, 9 years ago? 10 Years next month. He’s bigger than ever. No denial of his talent, and that he is going to raise people. People are going to want to not only hang with him, but whether they realize it or not, impress him, and that’s how levels get raised.”
