Despite being widely regarded as one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling, former WWE star Mideon (Dennis Knight) doesn’t believe Sting deserves the title of ‘The Icon’.
Speaking on ‘Six Feet Under with Mark Callaway’, Mideon shared his views on why he feels Sting never truly reached the highest level in the industry.
“He wasn’t an icon” Knight said.
“I love Sting, he’s one of my favorite opponents and everything, but he’s a WCW icon.
You need to break through.
You need to have Ole Anderson say, ‘You’re not gonna draw any f***ing money. Get the hell out of here.’
And then you have the ability to call yourself … an icon or something, if you do it somewhere else.”
Mideon points to Sting’s loyalty to WCW, his years with TNA, and his brief WWE run, which many felt was underwhelming, especially with his loss to Triple H at WrestleMania 31 and a career-ending injury.
Sting later returned to wrestling in AEW in 2020, where he impressed fans with his performances and played a key role in elevating Darby Allin’s character.
