Matt Cardona’s run with WWE as Zack Ryder was characterized by his rise as a self-made internet sensation. He gained immense popularity through his YouTube show, “Z! True Long Island Story,” which led to a groundswell of fan support.

Ryder’s underdog journey culminated in a memorable WrestleMania 32 moment, when he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship. His first run with the company already showcased the power of fan engagement in the digital age.

During a recent interview with Fightful, Cardona revealed what it would take for him to return to WWE.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Listen, if I get a phone call right now, of course I’d pick it up and we’d have a conversation. I’d be lying if I said I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again or wrestle at WrestleMania again, but for right now, I’m having the time of my life, I’m having so much fun, I’m making so much money.

What would it take? Cash and creative, you know? There’s no guarantees in wrestling, but I’d need some intention, you know what I’m saying? I don’t just want to be another guy on the roster, been there and done that, and nothing against that, but I did that. I’m over it.”

Matt Cardona’s real-life wife Chelsea Green returned to WWE earlier this year as a surprise entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble match, and is currently the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion along with Piper Niven.

Will Zack Ryder eventually follow her back to the promotion he already wrestled for from 2007 until 2020? Stay tuned!
