Below are a couple of top news stories of the day, involving Jeff Hardy and Vince McMahon.

• In a recent setback, Jeff Hardy suffered an injury in AEW at the hands of Sammy Guevara, leading to a hiatus from television and considerations about his wrestling career. Guevara’s suspension stemmed from a match where Hardy was injured, raising concerns about concussion protocol and the execution of dangerous moves. With Hardy’s AEW contract set to expire soon, speculation swirls about his next move.

Former wrestling executive Eric Bischoff weighed in, expressing worry about Hardy’s future in the ring. Bischoff emphasized the challenge of retiring from a career deeply ingrained in one’s identity, urging Hardy to prioritize his health and family.

Here’s what the WCW Legend had to say on his ’83 Weeks’ podcast:

“I don’t think it’s a good idea for Jeff to be working in AEW or WWE. It’s easier with AEW because they’re not on the road much, other than for television production. I think Jeff would be better off away from wrestling. It’s hard for wrestlers to leave because it becomes a part of who they are. It gets in their DNA. When they say, ‘It’s in my blood,’ that’s true for some people. Giving it up is like walking away from part of yourself.

Some people can handle it; some people look forward to it. Some people have a very difficult time with it and never really truly, truly adjust. I think perhaps Jeff is in the latter category. Don’t know, could be wrong. I hope I am. Spend some time with your kids, your wife. Appreciate what you’ve got, be grateful for what you’ve got, be grateful you could still walk with all the crazy stuff you put yourself through both recreationally and in the ring professionally. Be grateful for your health, and just look back and smile. That’d be my advice.”

• In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp, former WWE wrestlers Mace and Mansoor reminisced about a segment from the June 12, 2020 episode of WWE SmackDown.

The segment involved Jeff Hardy dousing Sheamus with ‘p*ss’ after being forced to take a drug test. This segment caused controversy on social media given Hardy’s history with addiction.

This particular angle stood out to Mace and Mansoor as one of only two instances where they saw Vince McMahon personally direct rehearsals. The other segment was their own debut as the Maximum Male Models.

Mansoor: “Well, we were in WWE when there was a p*ss angle in the ring. Jeff Hardy threw p*ss on Sheamus. By the way, one of the only angles for Vince to ever come to the ring for rehearsals.”

Mace: “There were two angles Vince came out of the Catacombs for, the p*ss angle and for the model walk.”

Mansoor: “The Maximum Male Models debut. Those are the only two segments that Vince ever personally directed in the rehearsals.”
