In a surprising trend, several wrestling icons have chosen to lace up their boots for a final stint in the ring, despite previously hanging them up.

Figures like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Goldberg and The Rock have all made comebacks long after their prime wrestling days seemed behind them.

On a recent episode of his weekly ‘Hall of Fame’ podcast, Booker T shed light on the phenomenon, suggesting that for some wrestlers, bidding farewell to the ring is a struggle.

This trend highlights the enduring allure of professional wrestling and the magnetic pull it has on those who’ve dedicated their lives to the sport.

Here’s what the former 5-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion had to say:

“It’s hard to walk away from it. It really is. It’s so hard. I look at Matt and Jeff, Chris Jericho, Taker, The Rock sneaking into WrestleMania 40. That’s what the business is.

We never really retire. Even myself, I’m thinking about having another match at Reality of Wrestling.

I’ve been training. I’ve been getting myself together in the gym on a regular basis. I’m on the 30 day ab workout. I’m like, man, I can still do this. How are you gonna tell a man he can’t do it no more? You can’t do it.”

Booker T currently works as a Commentator in NXT. His last match to date took place in 2023, when he entered the Men’s Royal Rumble match. He only lasted 42 seconds in the match, before being eliminated by Gunther.
