3. The constant teasing of a DX Break-Up
D-Generation X is one of the most popular and, frankly, awesome factions of all time. Anyone watching Raw is War during the Attitude Era will hopefully remember the constant tension between DX members.
Re-watching the Raws is very entertaining, yet only if it makes sense. There seemed to be an idea flowing around the creative team about a DX split. Yet, every time they went to do it, it would be dropped within the next two weeks.
For example, there were at least four break-up teases in the year of 1998. These included the New Age Outlaws joining the Corporation for about two weeks before revealing they were ‘joking’. Another includes JR. opening Raw by saying “Tensions between DX members are at an all time high. They could split up tonight!”. Whilst an obvious rating grab, it was ridiculous to just say this with zero build-up. (In case you were wondering, that night all of DX separately came to the ring, and all started shoving each other. HHH grabbed a microphone, claiming his DX comrades were all “J*ck-Off’s”, and said “fine! If you want a DX split, let’s give these people a DX split!” To which they all revealed their buttocks to the audience).
And one example where Billy Gunn left a tag match prematurely, later in the show you heard all of DX arguing behind closed doors, Billy Gunn leave the arena and the next week claimed he was “DX for life”, dropping the break-up tease.
Ridiculousness.
