1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels – Royal Rumble 1998 (Casket Match)
This match is best known for 2 things : Kane setting the casket on fire in which he locked up Undertaker & Shawn Michaels suffering a career ending injury.
Towards the end of the match when Undertaker was about the close the casket in which he put down HBK, New Age Outlaws and Los Boricuas interfered and attacked Taker until Kane came and single handedly cleared the ring before turning on his brother and chokeslammed him into the casket. Triple H and Chyna had already taken out HBK out of the casket and they shut it down with Taker laying in it and helped HBK retain the title. Kane later put that casket on fire.
During the match, HBK injured his back when he took a back body drop off of the casket and landed on the edge of the casket. This nasty bump resulted in two herniated discs in his back and crushed a third one. This exaggerated his addiction issues and eventually led to his in-ring retirement from wrestling after WrestleMania 14 (until he returned to in-ring action at SummerSlam 2002).
Fans still wonder what would have happened if he was still an in-ring performer during the Attitude Era. Maybe we would’ve got to see the Dream match, Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock!
