Back then WWE should’ve waited with his Comeback till the actual Royal Rumble match, which would have guarenteed that the fans would have cheered for his eventual win.
That didn’t happen, and one lead to the other, the IWC Smark crowds started booing him, with the casual fans just chanting with them for no other reason than to have a good time.
“The Animal” Batista can still go and would be a draw, simply based on his status as a now famous Hollywood Actor, as well as bringing in the Nostalgia-factor for most Old School Fans and/or Ruthless Aggression Era fans, who just realize how horrible and unwatchable the current product seems to be nowadays.
While Batista’s return is also very unlikely, it would probably come down to his current movie schedule. Keep in mind that Big Dave is still a close personal friend of Triple H.
