5 Superheroes In Professional Wrestling

1. The Blue Blazer

In the summer of 1988 the World Wrestling Federation brought in the younger brother of Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Owen Hart, who had previously made a name for himself in NJPW New Japan Pro Wrestling and Calgary Stampede Wrestling.

For whatever reason they didn’t acknowledge who he was though and instead put him under a mask, calling him “The Blue Blazer”, a new Super Hero Gimmick.

After losing to Mr. Perfect at WWF WrestleMania V, Owen left the WWF to tour the world, and in 1991 eventually lost the Blue Blazer mask in a “mask vs. mask” match against El Canek in Mexico.

That was the end of the Blue Blazer Gimmick, so everybody thought, but after years of Wrestling as himself and having quite some success in the WWF, the Gimmick was brought back in 1999, at the peak of the famous Attitude Era.

Unfortunately soon after the Gimmick revival, Owen Hart died in a tragic accident while performing a stunt as the Blue Blazer during the WWF Over The Edge 1999 Live PPV, all planned and layed out by Vince Russo.

Rest In Peace Owen Hart
