Below are some top AEW news stories of the day.

• In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Kurt Angle was asked if he ever had interest in working with AEW.

The WWE Hall of Famer shared that AEW had approached him in the past with a couple of offers. Angle mentioned hearing that Tony Khan held him in high regard, though he’s not certain how accurate that impression might be. He noted that AEW proposed two different contracts, both involving in-ring wrestling, which he ultimately knew he couldn’t commit to.

Here’s what the Olympic Gold Medalist said:

“AEW did offer me a couple of times. Tony Khan absolutely adores me, from what I heard — I don’t know if that’s true or not. But they did offer me two different deals, and, unfortunately, they both had to do with wrestling, and I knew I couldn’t do it.”

Angle has revealed in the past that he asked Tony Khan for a $3 million contract for doing 10 matches, but Khan passed on the offer.

Kurt retired from in-ring competition in 2019. His final match took place at WrestleMania 35 in April 2019, where he lost to Baron Corbin.

• QT Marshall recently shared a lesser-known story in wrestling about why WCW Legend Diamond Dallas Page turned down MJF’s request to use the iconic Diamond Cutter.

During his appearance on Hey! (EW), QT explained the background behind his own use of the move, which has become his signature finisher in recent years.

Marshall, who even teamed with DDP in AEW, expressed pride in continuing the legacy of the Diamond Cutter. “I actually enjoy when people say the Diamond Cutter handed down from Diamond Dallas Page because people hate it. They hate that of all the professional wrestlers in the world, he chose me. So, I want to keep putting that out to the world. So… for those fans out there watching, DDP chose me. Could have been MJF, could have been anyone else. He chose me,” he shared.

QT also revealed that MJF, a former AEW World Champion, had once asked DDP for permission to use the move but was turned down. “In fact, MJF asked for it, and he said no,” Marshall disclosed, noting how meaningful it felt to be entrusted with DDP’s iconic finisher.
