• AEW Wrestler Wanted Tony Khan To Book Him Better Because He’s Ranked #20 On PWI 500

At the ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022 pay-per-view, the opening match of the main show was Jonathan Gresham defending the ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli (fka Cesaro in WWE).

Castagnoli defeated Gresham to win the ROH World Title.

According to Fightful Select, Gresham asked for his release from AEW/ROH prior to this match and even “cussed out” AEW President Tony Khan:

“Jonathan Gresham asked for his release Saturday ahead of the ROH Death Before Dishonor show that saw him lose the championship.

We’re told that there was a lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend, and Gresham was said to have felt disrespected by this.

Among other things, we learned that the lack of time for the World Title match was a tipping point as well.

We’re told that Gresham finally procured a meeting with Tony Khan before the show, he was said to have communicated the frustration that led to him ‘cussing out’ Khan.”

In an update, PWInsider is reporting that the situation between Tony & Jonathan was “ugly & unprofessional” and added:

“One version of the story making the rounds is that Gresham ‘cursed out’ Khan.

Another story talents are sharing includes that Gresham used his ranking in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine PWI 500 list as an argument as to why he should be presented better.”

In the PWI 500 list for 2021, Gresham was ranked at #20.
