• AEW Wrestlers Think Sasha Banks Could Increase The Viewership Of Their TV Shows
As we have reported before, former WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks is scheduled to appear at the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 pay-per-view on January 4th 2023.
Sasha’s exit from WWE was negotiated months ago. January 1st 2023 is when she’ll become a Free Agent.
WWE couldn’t reach a deal with Sasha because she was asking for a lot of money.
According to Fightful Select, AEW wrestlers are excited about the fact that Sasha could come to All Elite Wrestling now that she’s done with WWE. They feel Sasha joining AEW would be huge for their women’s division and they also think that The Boss will help in increasing the viewership for AEW’s TV shows.
With NJPW, Sasha is on a per-appearance deal and is now the highest paid wrestler in the company, making more than what Chris Jericho made during his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling in the last few years.
Here’s what the Wrestling Observer reported about it:
“Chris Jericho made $100,000 a show when he was working for New Japan, and, man, $100,000 a show, she’s gonna have to… with Chris Jericho he was actually underpaid because of how much revenue he drove between New Japan World and ticket sales at the different shows and things like that. But I don’t see her driving that revenue, but I guess we’ll find out.
The Tokyo Dome may be one thing, but for other shows, and a lot of them in the United States, I don’t see where she’s gonna drive $100,000 of extra revenue.
On a per-appearance basis, obviously tons more than she would have made in WWE, but in total, they’re not gonna book her on enough shows to where she would make in the long run what she would make in WWE. It’s only a few shows, she has plenty of time to do other projects, perhaps work for AEW.”
There’s speculation going on that Sasha could make her debut in AEW on the January 11th 2023 episode of Dynamite, where Saraya (fka Paige in WWE) needs a tag team partner to battle Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter.
