Becky Lynch Reveals What Ronda Rousey Refused To Do At WrestleMania 35

Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch - WrestleMania 35 Main Event Stipulation

WrestleMania 35 in 2019 featured the first-ever all-women’s main event. This event featured Ronda Rousey getting pinned for the first time ever in a WWE ring.

Becky Lynch defeated Rousey and Charlotte Flair in a Triple Threat Match to win both the RAW & SmackDown Women’s Titles.

In her book, Becky revealed that an idea was pitched which would see her put Ronda in an Arm Bar and Ronda almost tapping out, before Charlotte would end up breaking the submission.

However, Ronda refused, noting that her mother would not approve of the possibility of her even thinking of tapping out.

Here’s what Becky wrote:

“When Ronda finally arrived over an hour later, TJ gave her the rundown of the ideas. And then it looks like you’re about to tap, but — ‘Oh no. My mom would never talk to me again if it looked like I was about to tap’.

I didn’t feel the need to fight it. Whether it be a pin, a roll-up, or a submission, I was going to be walking out of there holding two championships in the air, having been the first woman to win the main event of WrestleMania.”

During an interview on The MMA Hour, Becky said she believes WWE mishandled Rousey after her debut match at WrestleMania 34 in 2018.

The Man also mentioned respectfully that Rousey couldn’t wrestle:

“I don’t think anybody was trying to make anybody fail. Nobody’s trying to make anybody fail. I think when you love this, you look to try and make it better. How can I make this better?

She was coming from a different industry. She was a star. She should have been handled differently in terms of I think she had such a great first outing that everybody thought she can wrestle. I mean this with respect but she couldn’t wrestle.

What we do isn’t something that you can have one good match and then okay yeah I’m off to the races. It’s a craft and you have to learn your craft and you have to be diligent about learning your craft.

Everybody treated Ronda like she already knew it because when she first came in she was good in that first bout but she was also working with Kurt Angle. She was working with Triple H, Stephanie McMahon.

It was a well-rehearsed match because everybody wanted her to succeed. It was like okay she can do this, off to the races.

That was mishandling her because she was a star in her own right and she did so much for MMA. In terms of that in booking, that wasn’t done well.”
