CM Punk’s departure from AEW after the backstage fight at All In was reportedly influenced by Bryan Danielson, according to Fightful Select.
A discipline committee was quickly formed, led by Danielson and AEW General Counsel Chris Peck, taking over responsibilities from Chief Legal Officer Megha Parekh.
Despite Punk’s positive contributions and a longstanding friendship, Danielson believed the decision to terminate Punk was the right one.
He addressed the AEW roster about Punk’s departure, acknowledging the difficulty of the decision. Some members of the roster thought Punk was aware that Danielson was part of the disciplinary committee.
During an interview with Maggie & Perloff, Bryan had the following to say about this situation:
“Yeah, I’m a part of the disciplinary committee. Clearly, what happened has happened. I’m somebody who, I like CM Punk, I think he brought a lot to AEW while he was there. There is not a lot I can say about it, or that I want to say about it. I am part of it.
It’s really funny, you know how the internet is. Some people say I was the head of the disciplinary committee. There were more than three people involved in this decision, but most of them were all lawyers.
To say that I was the head, I don’t even have a college degree (laughs). I’m not in there bossing people around. I am part of the disciplinary committee.”
Bryan tweeted the following recently:
“My dad always told me, ‘The right thing is often the hardest thing to do. It won’t always make the most money. It won’t always be the most popular. But it’s still the right thing’.”
