Earlier this year, AEW aired the footage of the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at All In 2023 on an episode of Dynamite.
This incident led to Punk being fired from All Elite Wrestling.
During an interview on the SI Media podcast, Punk had the following to say about AEW airing the controversial footage:
“It’s kind of like… I have to wrestle Drew McIntyre, right? It’s this garbage person that I don’t want in my life. This is the fight game. This is the sh*t talk business. It’s just like fighting in the UFC. You see these guys ripping at each other in ugly press conferences and getting personal.
I don’t necessarily enjoy that energy, but the payoff is, I get to go in a ring and get to blacken eyes and chip teeth and make Drew sob and do whatever else in my head that I hope to do to him.
It felt really ugly, but then I was like, showing that footage isn’t going to help them or hurt me, so whatever.
Being a top draw in two different companies is pretty wild. Thanks, guys.”

Punk will have his first televised singles match in WWE in over 10 years this Saturday at SummerSlam 2024, where he’ll face Drew McIntyre with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee.
During an interview on ESPN First Take, Punk was asked what’s next for him after SummerSlam.
Here’s what the former WWE Champion said:
“I’m done with Drew after Saturday. I can put him in my rear view mirror and focus on bigger and better things. This is about me coming back to WWE and about the fans.
Drew injured me and gloated about it. I have to teach him a lesson on Saturday. I can beat the crap out of him on LIVE TV. I’m excited.
[What’s next after SummerSlam], I don’t know. There is an embarrassment of riches of talent in WWE now. There are people I have stories with that we can revisit. There are people I’ve never shared a ring with. I’m excited to do all of those things.”
