• CM Punk Returning To WWE As A Part-Timer?

We recently reported that AEW is likely to buy out CM Punk’s contract, which means that he is not going to return to the company again, after being suspended as a result of the AEW All Out 2022 backstage brawl.

However, if he indeed gets to leave Tony Khan’s promotion early, that could very well lead to an actual WWE return, something that no one thought would’ve been possible, but with Vince McMahon retired and Triple H in charge of creative and hiring these days, a CM Punk return isn’t all that unlikely to take place anymore.

Here’s what Fightful Select reported on the situation:

“We spoke with WWE sources, who wouldn’t comment in an official capacity, but on background provided us with some insight. They said that they didn’t think that Vince McMahon would have brought CM Punk in, especially after [the fight at All Out], and noted that FOX had pushed for it to happen before AEW signed him.

However, the line of thinking that was presented to us under the Triple H regime is that the right situation, right money and right creative can leave the door open for ‘anything within reason’.

One said, Triple H wants to be a success and make compelling programming more than anything. CM Punk back in WWE is compelling programming, but I can’t see it being a full-time deal like what he has in AEW, because of exactly what happened in AEW. That’s even if he has interest. If he gets a buyout he may not need to work again.”

CM Punk already wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment from 2006 until he refused to show up to work anymore (unexcused absence) in early 2014, which got him fired a few months later.

Phil Brooks then tried his luck in mixed martial arts (MMA) but after 2 UFC undercard-fighters defeated him pretty easily, he quit for good.

Punk then joined Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling in 2021 and managed to win the AEW World Title twice, but got suspended over a backstage brawl that took place after the All Out 2022 PPV.

He also got injured during both his AEW World Title reigns, which required surgery both times.
