It has been revealed that Conor McGregor was officially handed an 18-month suspension in September 2024 under the UFC’s anti-doping policy, but will be cleared to compete again in March 2026 — just in time for his planned return at the UFC White House card on June 14, 2026.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD), the in-house agency overseeing the UFC’s testing program. According to CSAD, McGregor accepted the sanction after missing three biological sample collections within a 12-month period in 2024, which counts as a violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.

“McGregor missed three attempted biological sample collections within a 12-month period in 2024, which constitutes a violation,” CSAD said in a press release. “UFC athletes are required to provide accurate whereabouts information at all times, so they can be contacted and submit to testing without prior warning.”

The missed tests reportedly occurred on June 13, September 19, and September 20, 2024, all of which were officially classified as “whereabouts failures.”

Injury and Cooperation Considered

CSAD noted that McGregor was not in active competition during that period and was recovering from injury rather than preparing for a fight.

The organization said the Irish fighter fully cooperated with the investigation, accepted responsibility, and provided detailed information about the missed tests. Because of that cooperation, CSAD reduced the standard 24-month penalty by six months.

“Despite these mitigating factors, CSAD emphasizes that accurate whereabouts filings and unannounced testing are essential to the success of the UFC Anti-Doping Program,” the statement added.

McGregor’s period of ineligibility officially began on September 20, 2024, the date of his third missed test, and will conclude on March 20, 2026.

Return Plans Intact

The timing of the suspension will not interfere with McGregor’s targeted return date. The former two-division World Champion has repeatedly stated that he plans to fight on the historic UFC White House event scheduled for June 14, 2026, following President Donald Trump’s announcement of the card earlier this year.

McGregor last competed in 2021, suffering a broken leg in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. A planned comeback bout against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in 2024 was scrapped after McGregor broke his toe during training.

Following his suspension, McGregor remains in the testing pool and has reportedly submitted four samples in 2025 as part of ongoing compliance with the UFC’s anti-doping program.

A Return 5 Years in the Making

If all goes according to plan, McGregor’s next fight will mark his first octagon appearance in nearly five years, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated comebacks in UFC history — and possibly a long-awaited showdown with Chandler.
