Daniel Cormier won the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 226 against Stipe Miocic. After the fight, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar confronted the new champion.

Even though Miocic wants a rematch, UFC President Dana White has announced that Lesnar vs. Cormier will be happening for the title as soon as Lesnar’s UFC suspension (over previous failed drug tests) is over.

Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture interviewed DC when the champion arrived at the fourth annual ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards.

While on the red carpet, Cormier told Salcedo that RAW Superstar Seth Rollins is his friend. In fact, Cormier explained to Salcedo that he had a text message from Rollins after he won the Championship, telling the Double-Champion to kick The Beast Incarnate’s a$$!

Cormier was asked about celebrating Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania 31 win and if that’s why Brock came after him. Below is what Cormier said:

“Maybe that’s why he’s so mad at me; because I’m friends with Seth Rollins. I got a text message from Seth right after the fight. He goes ‘Congratulations, now go kick Brock’s a$$.’ That is what I’m gonna do.”

During this interview, Cormier also talked about incident with Brock Lesnar at UFC 226 feeling like a WrestleMania moment. Below are the highlights:

On wanting to retire by next March:

“I want to retire by next March. So I want to fight as many times as I can before I retire […] It’s over, at forty-years-old I can’t be doing this anymore.”

On Brock Lesnar showing up at UFC 226 and pushing him:

“I was really thinking, ‘I’m having a WrestleMania moment.’ That was going through my head. I was like, ‘I’m having a real WrestleMania moment.’ It was awesome. I was having so much fun you know being in there from the fight, getting the two belts. The only way Dana [White] could stop us was by handing me a second title because now it was time for pictures. I was like, ‘okay Brock, get out.'”

On crossing over WWE and UFC worlds:

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because you like one doesn’t mean you may not like the other. I think [UFC and WWE] have very passionate fan bases. That’s why you see people on one side so mad or people on the other side so mad. [Let’s] all just come together and buy the pay-per-view that’s all I want.”

Speaking of DC, he recently talked about Hulk Hogan being reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame during an interview with ESPN.

Below are the highlights from that interview:

On Hulk Hogan being reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame:

“You know the guy’s one of the greatest performers of all time. People do make mistakes and I think if we know anything from WWE and the UFC, NFL, any sport, if you are willing to learn from your mistakes you get another opportunity.”

On who he wants to see defeat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship:

“Maybe I’ll beat Brock for the Universal Title.”
