Drew McIntyre is wearing an eye patch ever since a brutal attack by Damian Priest on the March 28th episode of SmackDown. During the assault, McIntyre reportedly suffered an eye injury involving what was initially believed to be “real glass.” With WrestleMania 41 rapidly approaching, questions arose regarding McIntyre’s ability to compete at the grandest stage of them all.
Speaking to The Overlap US, McIntyre addressed these concerns directly. When asked if his participation at WrestleMania 41 hinged on his eye’s recovery, ‘The Scottish Warrior’ delivered a resolute response. “Let’s just say this, I’ve said to the right people, there is no way in hell I’m going to miss WrestleMania,” McIntyre declared, leaving no room for doubt.
He further elaborated on his determination, referencing the resilience of a key figure within WWE management. “And the people in charge, specifically someone in charge, has fought through quads being torn off his body. I’m talking about Triple H,” McIntyre stated, highlighting Triple H’s own history of competing through significant injuries.
McIntyre expressed his belief that Triple H’s understanding of an in-ring performer’s mindset and the magnitude of WrestleMania would play a role in the decision-making process. “He understands what it’s like to be in the ring, and he understands how big WrestleMania is. And if it comes down to it, I’ve got the feeling he’s just going to let it go,” McIntyre speculated. Ultimately, his commitment to performing at the event remains unwavering. “But I’m going to do whatever I have to do to be at WrestleMania, no matter what,” he firmly asserted.
This confirmation comes after initial reports from PWInsider detailing McIntyre receiving medical attention following Priest’s attack. While early accounts suggested the removal of glass from his eye, WWE sources later clarified the nature of the injury. Upon his return to the United States, it was established that McIntyre did receive treatment, but the object extracted from his eye was not what was initially perceived.
WWE medical personnel examined McIntyre at the arena, and despite being seen backstage with an eye patch, he was reported to be in good condition. Although McIntyre initially informed others that glass was involved, subsequent examinations revealed this to be inaccurate.
Despite the initial scare and the continued presence of the eye patch, Drew McIntyre’s statements to The Overlap US leave no question about his intentions. He is determined to overcome this setback and compete at WrestleMania 41.
