• Former World Champion Says Vince McMahon Deserves Respect For How He Handled The Montreal Screwjob

During an interview on the ‘Wrestling Outlaws’ podcast, former TNA World Heavyweight Champion EC3 spoke about the infamous Montreal Screwjob, that took place at the end of the WWF Survivor Series 1997 pay-per-view on November 9th 1997 at the Molson Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Shawn Michaels put Bret Hart in a sharpshooter, Bret’s own finisher, and referee Earl Hebner called for the bell, pretending that Bret had submitted, which wasn’t the case.

It was Vince McMahon himself who screwed Hart to avoid the possibility of The Hitman leaving for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling as the reigning WWF Champion.

Bret spit on Vince’s face and punched him backstage.

Here’s what EC3 had to say about this incident, which took place 25 years ago:

“You gotta respect the hell out of Vince, not for that fact (Montreal Screwjob), but maybe for the fact that he knows he has to take what happens next. Stand right up there, take it.”
