• “I should have broken my neck and had a concussion” – WWF Legend Recalls Rough Spot During Match With Chris Benoit

On a recent episode of his weekly ‘The Kurt Angle Show’ podcast, our Olympic Hero spoke about a Steel Cage match he wrestled against ‘The Crippler’ Chris Benoit on the July 11, 2001 episode of Monday Night RAW, where he revealed that he almost broke his neck during the encounter.

The match was kind of stiff – as pretty much expected with those two – and even included a German Suplex off the top rope.

Here’s what Kurt had to say:

“You know what? I took a German Suplex from Chris Benoit on the top rope in a cage match. I landed right on my head.

I should have broken my neck and had a concussion. I don’t know how I survived through that.

Chris Benoit threw a German Suplex on me, and I landed right on the back of my head, literally 5 feet below.

So, we were up high on the top rope, leaning on the cage, and he German Suplexed me in the middle of the ring. I mean, I landed right on my head!”

Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit had quite a rivalry during the early 2000s with several classic matches, including their battles at:

– WWF Insurrextion 2000 (Winner: Kurt Angle)

– WWF WrestleMania X-Seven (Winner: Kurt Angle)

– WWF Backlash 2001 (Winner: Chris Benoit)

– WWF Judgment Day 2001 (Winner: Kurt Angle)

– WWE Unforgiven 2002 (Winner: Chris Benoit)

… along with their singles & tag team matches that took place on WWF/WWE’s weekly TV shows RAW & SmackDown over the years.
