On an episode of his weekly ‘The Snake Pit’ podcast, WWF Legend Jake Roberts admitted that he took anabolic steroids back in the day, while he wrestled for the World Wrestling Federation.

Here’s what Jake replied after he was asked whether he used steroids before:

“Yeah. There was a point in there after I had the neck surgery that I got really big. Maybe 1991.”

Roberts then revealed why steel cage matches were extra rough back in Bill Watts’ Mid-South Wrestling territory:

“It was more loose, but it still sucked. Yeah, it’s the way they had it set up, man. And it was just a cage around the ring. To me, the cage should be not inside the ropes, but on the very edge of the apron and then close it off there.

But whatever reason, they went to that big square thing, which really sucked. Because you can’t hit that. You hit that very hard. You’re going to be hurting.”

Jake Roberts wrestled for many, many years and worked for several major promotions during his long, illustrious career, including the World Wrestling Federation (1986-1992 & 1996-1997), Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (1992) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (1997 & 1998).

Since 2019, he’s working as a manager for Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling.
