Janel Grant, a former WWE employee embroiled in a legal battle with Vince McMahon, has alleged coercion in a controversial “love letter” sent to McMahon. This development adds another layer to the ongoing lawsuit, which accuses McMahon of $ex trafficking and other misconduct.
The letter, dated December 24, 2021, obtained by The New York Post, portrays Grant expressing affection and admiration towards McMahon, referring to him as “my best friend, my love, and my everything”.
Grant also wrote:
“After almost 3 years together, it’s like my life isn’t even real to me unless you’re there and in it, and I’m sharing it all with you.”
The complete letter can be read later in this article.
However, Grant claims that McMahon coerced her into writing the letter as part of his defense strategy against her allegations.
Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, condemned McMahon’s alleged actions, describing them as “psychological torture” and characteristic of abusive behavior. Callis emphasized that McMahon’s attempt to showcase the letter as evidence is a desperate ploy to discredit Grant’s claims:
“Frankly it’s pretty disgusting that Vince’s weeks-late attempt to defend his horrendous behavior — behavior he claims to this day never happened — is to try to showcase letters that Vince himself coerced her to write.
His psychological torture of her continues — as is typical of abusive predators who respond to women speaking out with increased threats. While Janel isn’t a stranger to his intimidation tactics, this is a new low even for him.”
In response, McMahon’s attorney, Jessica Taub Rosenberg, denied the coercion allegations, asserting that Grant wrote the letter voluntarily. Rosenberg pointed out that the letter’s multiple drafts indicate Grant’s willingness to express her feelings independently:
“This is revisionist history. No one coerced Ms. Grant to write that letter. She wrote it of her own accord. The fact that the letter shows it was the 24th draft speaks volumes.”
Interestingly, this legal dispute unfolds against the backdrop of McMahon’s ongoing legal battles. Notably, the law firm representing McMahon in this case, Kasowitz Benson Torres, recently represented Major League Wrestling (MLW) in a lawsuit against WWE, resulting in a substantial settlement.
Additionally, text messages exchanged just days before the letter reveal Grant’s concerns about her ability to write due to a finger surgery, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the letter’s composition.
You can read Grant’s text message below:
“How will I write your letter? I can type and read it… or try to write in a couple days. I’m so sorry if I mess this up, I want you to have a nice letter :(“
As the lawsuit progresses, the spotlight remains on the contentious relationship between Grant and McMahon, with each side presenting conflicting narratives in a legal saga fraught with controversy and complexity.
