• WWE Nearly Booked Roman Reigns Inside Hell In A Cell At WrestleMania 42
WWE almost went in a completely different direction for the WrestleMania 42 main event. Before settling on the current card, officials spent a lot of time discussing a massive third match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes — this time inside Hell in a Cell, according to the Wrestling Observer.
Those plans fell apart due to some unexpected changes behind the scenes. According to the Wrestling Observer, a real-life injury to Seth Rollins forced WWE to pivot.
Even after Drew McIntyre became the Undisputed WWE Champion, the Hell in a Cell idea didn’t go away immediately. PWInsider previously reported that there was a backup plan for Cody to challenge McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 42. This would have been the final chapter of their intense rivalry.
Eventually, the creative team changed course again, leading to Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.

• Another Title Change Expected Before WrestleMania 42
Becky Lynch is not taking any time off during the busy WrestleMania season. She is expected to face AJ Lee in a non-title rematch at WrestleMania 42, according to Self Made Pro.
The two already fought at Elimination Chamber 2026, where AJ won the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
That loss was by design. WWE planned the title change to build a bigger story. The rematch at WrestleMania will continue their rivalry without the title. As previously noted, AJ is rumored to be a transitional champion and is expected to lose the championship soon. She is scheduled to defend the title against Bayley on next week’s RAW.
Fans can look forward to this high-profile clash as part of WWE’s record number of women’s matches planned for the two-night show. This feud has strong history and fan interest, making it a key part of WrestleMania weekend.
