Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day:
– During a recent interview on the ‘Grue Rume Show’ podcast, WWF Attitude Era Legend Kurt Angle compared Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling to WWE and discussed whether AEW could ever become the #1 wrestling promotion on the planet.
Here’s what Kurt said:
“It’s crazy because fans pick sides. They pick who their favorite is. WWE is still in the lead, I think they’ll always be in the lead, don’t get me wrong, AEW is doing great, they’ve done pretty well in ratings from time to time and been close to beating WWE in ratings at certain points.
The WWE is just a monster. They are a company worth $9 billion. When you have that kind of money behind you, it’s hard to compete with.
Don’t get me wrong, Tony Khan has money too, but not WWE-type money.”
– Carlito made a shocking appearance at the WWE Backlash premium live event earlier this year to help Bad Bunny in the San Juan Street Fight against current Mr. Money In The Bank and Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Damian Priest.
Over a month after that, the Wrestling Observer reported that the former United States Champion signed with WWE. He was also pulled from all of his bookings with several independent wrestling promotions.
PWInsider reported that he would return to WWE on the July 7th episode of SmackDown at Madison Square Garden, but that did not happen as his segment was reportedly nixed due to The Bloodline segment going on for almost 40 minutes on that show.
In an update from the Wrestling Observer, it was noted that Carlito signed with WWE in July, but the company could not figure out what to do with him. They still have no plans for him which is why he hasn’t made his return to TV yet.
