On this day in 2009, we lost legendary Old School Wrestler “Playboy” Buddy Rose (Real name: Paul Perschmann) at the age of 56 due to diabetes.

He was considered a Legend in several territories such as Verne Gagne’s AWA and Don Owen’s Pacific Northwest, but also made a name for himself in the WWF during the 80s.

Buddy Rose (as The Executioner) wrestled Tito Santana in the opening match of the first ever WrestleMania in 1985.

When he returned to the World Wrestling Federation in 1990, he was used mainly as a ‘Jobber To The Stars’.

• Kurt Angle Reveals Who The Greatest WWE Superstar Of All Time Is

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle made the following post on Instagram recently:

“17 years ago, I recall when a young John Cena took WWE by storm. Even then, John pushed me to my limit. I absolutely Loved stepping into the ring with him. John has been able to stay healthy (for the most part) and dominate WWE for 17 years, which is unheard of, and nearly impossible.

For that reason, he will go down in history as the most consistent, and the Greatest WWE Superstar of all time. Happy belated birthday John. You earned my respect the first time we locked horns. #itstrue #wwe #wrestling #wordlife #rappercena”
