Legendary Old School WWF Commentator ‘Good Ol’ J.R.’ Jim Ross (Real name: James William Ross) celebrates his birthday today.

Ross started to make a name for himself as an announcer and on commentary in Bill Watts’ UWF Mid-South Wrestling Territory and came to Jim Crockett Promotions when they bought the promotion in 1987.

In 1993 Vince signed J.R. to a World Wrestling Federation contract and Ross made his TV debut at the ‘WWF WrestleMania 9’ PPV.

Him and Jerry “The King” Lawler are considered the voices of the legendary Attitude Era, which is why they got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

• Old School Wrestling Veteran Celebrates His Birthday

Old School Wrestling Veteran Vic Grimes celebrates his birthday today.

The World Wrestling Federation hired Vic Grimes in 1999 and after some time in their ‘Memphis Power Pro Wrestling’ developmental promotion, he had his Monday Night RAW debut as “Key”, a drug dealer and friend of Prince Albert & Droz.

The character didn’t last very long and Grimes left the WWF to join Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling, where he replaced P.N. News as a member of Da Baldies.

Later on he also worked for Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW) and MTV’s short-lived project Wrestling Society X.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIC GRIMES!

• Old School ECW Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Today would have been the birthday of Legendary Hardcore Wrestler & real life Bounty Hunter ‘The Original Gangsta’ New Jack (Real name: Jerome Young).

New Jack originally made a name for himself in Jim Cornette’s SMW Smoky Mountain Wrestling territory, where he formed ‘The Gangstas’ with his Tag Team partner Mustafa Saed, but soon jumped ship to Paul Heyman’s ECW Extreme Championship Wrestling, where he became a house hold name in Hardcore Wrestling and somewhat of an innovator when it comes to jumping of balconies during pro wrestling matches.

After ECW closed its doors in January 2001, New Jack continued to wrestle on the indies (with a few short stints in TNA in between) until he officially retired a few years ago. He has since came out of retirement quite a few times, to reunite The Gangstas with his old partner Mustafa.

Jerome Young passed away from a heart attack in 2021.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY & REST IN PEACE!

January 3, 1963 – May 14, 2021
