• Original Plan For Brock Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston & The Fiend vs. Seth Rollins

Kofi Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 to capture the WWE Championship and Seth Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar twice this year to win the Universal Championship on two separate occasions (at WrestleMania 35 and SummerSlam 2019).

However, both men will now be dropping their Titles next month. Kofi will lose the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar on the October 4th edition of SmackDown on FOX and Rollins will lose the Universal Championship to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at Hell In A Cell 2019.

According to The Dirty Sheets, there’s a very solid reason behind WWE giving up on both Kofi & Seth. WWE officials don’t consider Kofi & Seth’s Title reigns as a success as both of them have failed to break into the top 5 merchandise sellers list.

Below are the top 5 merchandise sellers in WWE right now:

1. Roman Reigns

2. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt

3. Becky Lynch

4. John Cena

5. AJ Styles

Also, there has been a clear decline in attendance ever since Kofi & Seth won their respective World Titles at WrestleMania 35.

Kofi’s Title reign ending on SmackDown’s debut on FOX has been planned for a while now, but the decision of WWE pulling the plug on Rollins’ Title reign came after Wyatt’s Fiend gimmick got hot.

The original plan for the Kofi-Brock feud was for Brock to tease a Money In The Bank cash-in on Rollins for months, but eventually cash-in on Kofi on SmackDown’s debut on FOX and win the Title.

However, Vince McMahon felt WWE desperately needed a big match for SummerSlam 2019, so they pulled the trigger on Brock’s MITB cash-in at Extreme Rules and this led to Lesnar vs. Rollins in the main event of SummerSlam.

So instead of a Money In The Bank cash-in, WWE went ahead with an advertised match between Kofi & Brock.

On the other hand, WWE originally planned on doing Seth Rollins vs. The Fiend for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36.

However, with The Fiend being very hot and Rollins getting stale, WWE decided to do this feud now.
