• Reason Behind AJ Styles Being Pulled From Mixed Match Challenge (And Losing Royal Rumble #30 Spot)

After “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles lost the WWE Championship to Daniel Bryan on SmackDown Live a few weeks back, he was also pulled from Season 2 of the Mixed Match Challenge (the final of this tournament will take place at TLC 2018 PPV and the winners will earn the #30 spot in the Men’s & Women’s Royal Rumble 2019 matches).

According to the Wrestling Observer, the mixed tag team of AJ Styles & Charlotte Flair isn’t set to win the WWE Mixed Match Challenge, so one of them would have to get pinned to lose the tournament.

At this point, WWE officials didn’t want either of them to get pinned. Styles recently lost the WWE Title and Charlotte recently turned heel and destroyed Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series 2018 to gain a ton of momentum.

So in order to protect Styles & Flair, Styles was pulled from the tournament and replaced by Jeff Hardy (who is someone that WWE doesn’t protect much) so that Hardy can take the pinfall.

With Styles being pulled from the Mixed Match Challenge, he will no longer have the opportunity to enter the Men’s Royal Rumble 2019 match at the #30 spot as the winner of the Mixed Match Challenge will get that spot.

However, Styles might not even need to be in the Royal Rumble match if he can defeat Daniel Bryan in their rematch at TLC 2018 to recapture the WWE Championship and become a 3 time WWE Champion.
