Since its 2019 debut, AEW has grown significantly but has faced challenges with declining attendance at live events since All Out 2021.

Despite lower ticket sales, AEW continues to book large venues, leading to discussions about whether they should consider smaller venues to avoid unappealing visuals of sparsely filled arenas.

According to Fightful Select, AEW has several reasons for sticking with larger venues.

The promotion prioritizes amenities, accessibility, parking, and the ability to expand seating if necessary. Additionally, mailing lists and adequate concession staff are factors in their decision-making.

“I’ve asked about this a number of times and I’ve been given a number of reasons they book the venues they do.

It’s very common for music acts to book large venues and curtain them off as well.

Amenities, how nice the venue is, ease of access, parking, mailing lists, the ability to open up additional sections, concession staff are all reasons AEW chooses to run bigger venues,” the report said.

Some within the wrestling community worry AEW’s attendance struggles could mirror the decline of WCW in 2000, sparking concerns about the promotion’s long-term viability.

Shifting to smaller, more intimate venues has been suggested by fans and insiders as a possible solution to improve the atmosphere at live events.
