• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (April 19, 2005) – Old School Wrestling Veteran Passed Away

On this day in 2005, we lost Old School Wrestling Veteran Silo Sam (Real name: John Harris) at the age of 52.

Standing 7ft 5in (billed as 7ft 7in), John Harris ranks #3 on the list of the tallest professional wrestlers ever, which can be seen here.

Known as Silo Sam in Verne Gagne’s AWA (1986), he was known as Big John Harris on CWA Memphis Wrestling TV (1984-1985) and as Little John in Fritz Von Erich’s WCCW.

In 1987, he wrestled on untelevised WWF House Shows, but they didn’t end up hiring him.

Quite a lot of people remember him for chasing Pee-wee Herman because of a girl in the movie “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”.

• Recently Released Wrestler Wasn’t Scheduled To Get Pushed Or Get Called Up To The WWE Main Roster

As we noted yesterday, NXT wrestler Kassius Ohno got released from the company due to budget cuts.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Ohno wasn’t scheduled to get any kind of push in WWE, and wasn’t scheduled to be called up to the WWE main roster either:

“Kassius Ohno is a name that came out, I think he was fired Wednesday night. He was kind of like a player-coach and I get. Well, this is what I get. He was never going to be brought up to the main roster, I think that was very clear and he was never going to be pushed that hard on NXT.

They were doing something with him in NXT UK brand but he was more like, you know he was a guy who was really one of the smartest guys when it comes to wrestling and working and working multiple styles and the idea of you know different ideas from different places.

I know a lot of guys were very, very high on him just because of how much he would teach them about wrestling and about life and things like that.

He was like a lot of guys’ big brother in NXT, so it’s like on paper when you look at the idea, they were not going to use him but he was valuable in other ways. But he was losing in and around 40 and they weren’t going to use him and I get that, from that perspective.”
