Former WWE commentator Hugo Savinovich believes the time has come for Alberto Del Rio to return to the company – and according to him, some of WWE’s biggest names are backing the idea. Speaking passionately about Del Rio’s journey on Lucha Libre Online, Hugo pointed to the reaction at Triplemanía 33, where Alberto El Patrón’s storyline reignited fan interest. He explained that despite setbacks, Del Rio kept finding ways to make headlines:
“Even after they took the title from him… Alberto Del Rio didn’t stop and started making more and more news.”
Hugo argued that WWE missed a major opportunity by not having Del Rio front-and-center when AAA’s sale was announced at WrestleMania. Still, he believes another chance is coming – and that Del Rio’s return could serve a greater purpose.
One of his biggest claims is that Roman Reigns himself wants Del Rio back.
“The problem here isn’t that a big star says, ‘I don’t want Alberto here.’ No. When your big star and other big stars say, ‘You know what? Alberto deserves to come back because he has proven it,’ that’s different.”
He specifically named Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, and Rey Mysterio as supporters. Hugo recalled how Rey honored Del Rio, which he said was no coincidence:
“Rey Mysterio could have done anything else, but he said, ‘I’ll bring him out now.’ Because in his heart… Rey wants to bring Alberto Del Rio.”
According to Hugo, Del Rio’s conduct in recent years has been spotless, strengthening the case for a WWE/AAA return:
“We’re talking about almost four years… and Alberto Del Rio’s conduct has been excellent. There were moments where everyone went against Alberto, but the truth will always set you free, and the truth set him free.”
Beyond locker room backing, Hugo highlighted the Samoan family connection as another key factor. Roman Reigns and The Usos, he said, understand loyalty and tradition – and see Del Rio as someone who embodies those values.
“The Samoan culture… when they tell you, ‘You are my brother,’ you mess with him, you mess with them. And the Samoan clan, represented by Roman Reigns and The Usos, they know and they want Alberto to return. Why? Because we’re talking about justice.”
Hugo also pointed to The Undertaker’s growing creative influence in AAA, claiming The Deadman is another big name willing to help reshape Del Rio’s character:
“Now that we know Undertaker is heavy-duty on the creative side… Undertaker is ready to use his creative mind to get the most out of Alberto Del Rio’s character.”
In his eyes, Alberto could even play a role as a unifying figure within wrestling, someone who bridges divides among fans and cultures.
“Alberto can be like the peace ambassador… His return will make us forget if you are rich or poor, black or white, a doctor or a tourist. Wrestling unites you, and Alberto can bring that back.”
Hugo thanked WWE stars who, according to him, have shown support for Del Rio’s comeback:
“I want to thank wrestlers like Drew McIntyre, John Cena, Undertaker, Savio Vega, Konnan, Rey Mysterio, Roman Reigns, The Usos… What it tells you is that it’s time. It’s time to bring Alberto back.”
