Ronda Rousey’s last match in WWE took place at SummerSlam 2023, where she lost to Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules Match.
Fans didn’t enjoy this match, but Rousey doesn’t care.
Here’s what the former Women’s Champion wrote in her book:
“In that moment, in the ring, every single thing made sense, every motion anticipated and capitalized on, not because it was scripted but because it wasn’t.
Shayna and I flowed from one spot to the next because we knew how to fight, how to make it real, how to make it make sense. For the very last time, I loved every second of it.
Somewhere in the crowd, I heard the rumblings of ‘this is boring’. But the fans weren’t able to sync up from around the stadium and the chant died. I didn’t even care. I expected the fans weren’t going to understand. They weren’t going to appreciate it.
If anything, making them sit through it was my last ‘f**k you’ to them and the company. But it was the match that we wanted it to be. It was a match that I was proud of. That’s all that mattered.”
During an interview with Fightful, Shayna revealed that they wanted a Steel Cage or a Fight Pit for this match, but it wasn’t possible at Ford Field.
Here’s what Baszler said:
“I won’t lie, the idea we had, we were a little bit handcuffed just based on the venue. There was no tron, so we knew the people in-house were going to have trouble maybe understanding some of the stuff because you need a camera and a close up of that.
We couldn’t get a Cage or a Fight Pit in there because of the rigging in a dome situation is totally different. There was a lot. We tried to work out some other things, it just didn’t work out. We did the best we could with what we had. I’m proud of it.”
