Kevin Owens: “There’s a difference between being a Champion and being a Top Guy”

During a recent interview with ESPN, SmackDown Live Star Kevin Owens talked about how one doesn’t need to be a Champion to be a Top Guy in a wrestling company:

“I used to say that even on the independent scene, I remember a specific incident where one particular wrestler was really worried about being world champion. It’s the company that I used to wrestle for on the independent scene, and I remember telling him that it didn’t matter who the champion was because no matter how many times he became champion, I’d always be the top guy there.

I feel like that’s true in WWE as well. Not that I’m the top guy, but I’m saying I don’t necessarily think the WWE champion, or the Universal Champion, or any kind of champion, equates to being the top guy in WWE. I think that’s determined by performances and attitude. Consistency is very important. Obviously, being WWE Champion, or a Universal Champion, is as big as it gets as far as winning titles goes.

And that goes a long way to helping somebody become top guy, be viewed as top guy, but I do think that there’s a difference between being a champion and being a top guy, for sure. I obviously value being a top guy more than being a champion, but one helps the other; they kind of come hand in hand.”

Rumor Killer On A Huge Match Taking Place At Survivor Series 2017

We previously noted how John Cena vs. Roman Reigns was originally planned for Survivor Series 2017, but WWE moved it to No Mercy 2017 because Cena won’t be available for the Survivor Series PPV in November because he’ll be filming the Bumblebee Transformers movie.

However, Dirty Sheets is reporting that WWE officials are talking with the makers of the Bumblebee movie to allow Cena to work a match at Survivor Series 2017 and that’s because WWE has some huge plans in store for Cena.

If WWE manages to get Cena to work the Survivor Series PPV, then John Cena vs. The Undertaker will take place in the main event of the show.

Cena was then being advertised for Survivor Series 2017 and the rumors about Cena facing Undertaker began to spread even more.

However, that match isn’t going to happen as Cena has now been pulled from the PPV (as he would be filming the ‘Transformers’ Spinoff ‘Bumblebee’ movie).

Cena is now scheduled to return to WWE in late December as he’s being advertised for the following events:

* Tue. Dec 26: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY (Raw)

* Wed. Dec 27: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY (Raw)

* Fri. Dec 29: Times Union Center, Albany, NY (Raw)

* Sat. Dec 30: Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL (SmackDown Live)

Speaking of Cena, he was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports and was asked if he’ll ever retire from WWE. Below is what Cena said:

“No, never. They’re family.”
