WWF Intercontinental Championship - WWE - IC - Belt - Title

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (June 7, 2006) – Old School WWF Legend Passed Away

On this day in 2006, we lost Old School WWF Legend Earthquake (Real name: John Tenta) at the age of 42 due to a bladder cancer.

The former Sumo wrestling Champion joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1989 as “The Canadian Earthquake”, which was later shortened to just “Earthquake”.

In 1991, he formed a Tag Team called “The Natural Disasters” with Tugboat, who became known as Typhoon, and together they won the WWF World Tag Team Championship.

By 1994, he had left the Federation and joined Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling, where he became known as “Avalanche”, then “Shark” and later under his real name, John Tenta.

Tenta had one last run for the WWF in 1998 & 1999, as the masked “Golga”, but later returned for one night at WrestleMania X-Seven, where he entered the famous Gimmick Battle Royal.

Him getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame is actually only a matter of when, not if.

• Rumor Killer On New WWE Intercontinental Champion

Some fans on Twitter shared a picture of the Intercontinental Championship with Daniel Bryan’s side plates and claimed that Brie Bella posted it (thus implying that Bryan is the new champion).

However, these claims are false as the side plates on the belt are very old. These were used when Daniel Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30 in 2014.

Besides, the picture was found to be posted on a WWE fan account on Instagram 5 days ago, before the claims of Brie Bella posting it were made.

AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan for the Intercontinental Championship has already been taped and will air next week on SmackDown.
