After a short stint in Memphis as Soul Train Jones, he soon became Virgil, bodyguard and personal assistant of the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase in 1987.
After teaming with his boss at the 1991 Royal Rumble PPV, Virgil split from Dibiase and started feuding with him.
Virgil won the WrestleMania VII match via countout, and also defeated The Million Dollar Man at the 1991 SummerSlam PPV in Madison Square Garden, to win the Million Dollar Championship, a belt custom made for Dibiase.
For the reminder of 1991 & 1992 Virgil would wrestle on PPV on a regular basis, but in 1992-1994 he was mainly used as a Jobber to the Stars on weekly WWF TV.
