• We are saddened to report that Territory Wrestling Legend Sweet Daddy Siki passed away at the age of 91 on December 31, 2024, after battling Alzheimer’s disease.

Sweet Daddy Siki, born Elkin James, was a trailblazing African-American wrestler whose career spanned from the 1950s to the 1980s. Known for his athleticism, charisma, and willingness to challenge racial barriers, Siki became a star in wrestling and later in music.

Starting in small venues under the name Reginald Siki, he rose to prominence despite facing intense racial prejudice, including life-threatening encounters. Siki became one of the first African-American heels in wrestling, adopting bold personas like “Mau Mau Siki.” His skill and mentorship from wrestling greats like Buddy Rogers led to significant milestones, including a major title win in 1959.

After moving to Toronto in the 1960s, Siki found fame in Canada, both as a wrestler and a country music performer. Dubbed “Sweet Daddy” Siki, he captivated audiences with his flamboyant style and microphone prowess. Later, he trained future WWE Superstars Edge & Christian, and transitioned to running karaoke events.

Siki’s remarkable life, which included friendships with celebrities like Count Basie and George Foreman, was chronicled in a 2017 documentary. His son, Reg James, told Slam Wrestling that Siki “lived a long life, did what he wanted to do, and made a successful career out of entertainment.”
