ED YOUNG: God, that’s brutal!
UNDERTAKER: I think it’s a lot more than what most people really think. I know for a long period of time people have said ‘you’re just doing TV shows’. They had no earthly clue about all the non-televised events that we do.
ED YOUNG: But when you reached your status, one of the best of all time, the latter years…would the company fly you privately to places a lot or did you still have to do (on your own)?
UNDERTAKER: There are a few occasions and this depends on where…just the logistics of it, but normally fly me commercial and usually they would do a car service or something for me at this point.
ED YOUNG: Let’s say we take a trip commercially, you & me, I bet it’s uncanny how many people recognize you, isn’t it?
UNDERTAKER: Yeah, it’s kind of hard to hide! It really is. Even if they’re not wrestling fans, it doesn’t take too many removals to find somebody who that person knows who he is.
For years, I kind of lived the character. So it was this guy (points to a photo of him in character) everywhere. So people, if they came up to me it would be different. But I kind of tried to give them that aura like…”Don’t mess with me, or I might drop you where you stand”.
I try to be as accommodating as I can be, unless my kids are with me. I try to be as polite as I can…you know…I don’t want my kids’ pictures taken, I don’t want them on Social Media…(I’m) really protective of that.
So, I normally say ‘look, my family’s with me’…normally I would, but I don’t take pictures because it causes something…you know…and most people understand that and respect it.
