Rob Van Dam returned to WWE for a one year run from 2013 to 2014. WWE mostly used RVD to put over young, up-and-coming wrestlers during this run.

RVD wasn’t a fan of this run and made it clear on his podcast.

Below is what the former WWE Champion said:

“When I went back in [2013], it sucked, and they weren’t ready for me. I guess they didn’t have plans for me.

They had plans with all these other guys, and then they just kind of threw me on the schedule. I agreed to do 5 weeks and it was like 88 matches. It was, you know, to work with the young guys, but it did nothing for me.

They killed me the whole time. And I waited till the very last. Last of the last to say anything because, like I said, I’m not a complainer and to my benefit that’s the way that I handled it.

I waited, and since then, I was told to notify them when I was ready, so maybe that’s back where we are. I don’t know.”

In his last WWE match, which aired on the August 29th 2014 episode of SmackDown, RVD lost to Seth Rollins.

RVD was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021.
