As WWE continues to explore international growth opportunities, London is once again being positioned as a serious contender to host the company’s biggest annual event—WrestleMania. During a panel at SXSW London, Mayor Sadiq Khan made a passionate public pitch to bring the global wrestling spectacle to the city, directly appealing to WWE executives.

WrestleMania in London? Sadiq Khan Says It’s Time

Speaking during the “Opening Remarks – Welcome to SXSW London” conversation with CNBC’s Tania Bryer, Khan expressed his excitement about the possibility of hosting WrestleMania, making it clear that London is ready and eager.

“I’d love for WrestleMania to come to London,” Khan stated confidently. He then turned his attention to WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, saying, “Triple H, if you’re watching, we want WrestleMania to come to London.”

The comment wasn’t just a throwaway line for media buzz—it reflected a broader vision Khan has for the city’s relationship with global sporting events. WrestleMania, which has long been a staple of North American stadiums, would mark a monumental shift in WWE’s global expansion if hosted in the UK.

WrestleMania as a Festival, Not Just a Weekend

Khan didn’t stop at pitching the idea—he also painted a vivid picture of what ‘Mania in London could look like.

“If WrestleMania came to London, my message to the team there is that we wouldn’t just have a great weekend, we’d have a festival,” he explained.

He envisions a multi-day celebration that includes not just the current roster, but legends of the past and rising future stars. In his words, it would be a full-scale cultural and sporting event that goes beyond the ring and into the streets of London.

This concept aligns well with WWE’s recent efforts to expand their premium live events into full fan experiences, as seen with SummerSlam weekends and ‘Mania week festivities in the U.S.

WrestleMania Could Expand WWE’s Reach in Europe

Khan further stressed that the opportunity to host ‘Mania is about more than prestige—it’s about potential.

“I think the potential has not been reached in terms of WrestleMania,” he said. “If WrestleMania wants to expand, the obvious place to come is London.”

His belief is rooted in London’s established infrastructure and status as a global destination for sports and entertainment. “London is the sporting capital of the world,” he emphasized.

WrestleMania 42 Uncertainty Opens the Door

With WWE recently confirming that WrestleMania 42 will not take place in New Orleans as originally planned, speculation has intensified around potential new locations. While Las Vegas is currently a strong candidate, Khan’s public remarks suggest London is ready to make a serious bid—if not for WrestleMania 42, then for a future installment.

Whether WWE is ready to take WrestleMania outside of North America for the first time remains to be seen. But with a high-profile political figure publicly backing the idea, and a city fully equipped to handle it, the momentum for WrestleMania in London is stronger than ever.
