Vince McMahon’s reputation is under increased scrutiny following the release of Netflix’s Mr. McMahon docuseries, which revisits multiple allegations of misconduct against him, including a 1992 assault claim by former WWF referee Rita Chatterton.
In November 2022, Chatterton’s lawyer demanded $11.75 million in compensation for the alleged assault, leading to a multi-million dollar settlement with McMahon, although the amount remains undisclosed.
In the second episode of the series, McMahon addressed Chatterton’s allegations, attempting to justify his position by pointing out the statute of limitations.
He controversially remarked, “Even if it had been a rape, the statute of limitations have run out.”
This statement has sparked significant backlash both from fans and industry insiders.
WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas also appeared in the episode, admitting to a culture of abuse in wrestling’s earlier days, saying, “We abused the hell out of women. All of us did.”
Additionally, a former WWE employee hinted that more scandals involving McMahon could surface in the future, suggesting this may only be the beginning of further revelations.
McMahon’s attempt to deflect responsibility for the accusations has continued to fuel outrage, and his legacy faces ongoing public scrutiny.
