Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Vince McMahon and Royal Rumble 2026.

• Rumors continue to circulate about Vince McMahon’s potential return to the wrestling industry in 2025, following his retirement from WWE in 2022 amid allegations of $exual misconduct.

Speculation about his future plans intensified during the latest Grilling JR podcast, where Jim Ross asked Ric Flair’s son-in-law Conrad Thompson, “You hear anything about Vince? You and I talked about this once before that maybe in 2025 he’s going to make some sort of return to his chosen profession, or is he, or does he need it? He don’t need it financially, but I don’t know. I don’t know. It just, it’s a never-ending story, Conrad.”

Thompson replied, “He’s bought a studio. He’s building a roster. We’ll see.”

While nothing has been confirmed, these remarks hint at the possibility of McMahon launching a new wrestling company to rival WWE or exploring other entertainment ventures.

McMahon has a history of trying non-wrestling projects, such as the WBF, the XFL, and a boxing pay-per-view in the 1980s. Thompson’s comments suggest that a return to professional wrestling may be on the horizon, especially now that McMahon is no longer bound by a non-compete clause.

• WWE announced that Royal Rumble 2026 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the first time the event will take place outside North America.

Saudi Arabia reportedly spent over $55 million to secure this major WWE Premium Live Event, according to the Wrestling Observer.

While WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia could generate even greater revenue, the Observer highlighted concerns about social backlash if WWE’s flagship event ever gets hosted in Saudi Arabia.

Kicking off with the Royal Rumble appears to be a calculated step toward gradually making major WWE events more common in the region. With Saudi Arabia already hosting some of the biggest boxing matches and gaining increased fan acceptance over time, WWE seems poised to adopt a similar approach.

Despite outrage from fans over the Royal Rumble’s location, WWE’s events in Saudi Arabia remain highly profitable, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its partnership with the country.
