• WCW Legend Says CM Punk Is Not Having The ‘Hogan Effect’ In AEW

AEW Owner Tony Khan signed CM Punk in the summer of 2021, which turned out to be the biggest (still active) name to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

Several fans on Twitter were wondering if CM Punk joining All Elite Wrestling would bring the so called ‘Hogan Effect’ to the young up-and-coming wrestling promotion, thus referring to the effect that the signing of WWF Legend ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan by Ted Turner in 1994 had for World Championship Wrestling.

Pretty much all fans remember how just 2 years after joining WCW, Hogan turned heel and formed the New World Order (nWo), which led to WCW Monday NITRO defeating WWF Monday Night RAW in the weekly TV-ratings for 83 weeks in a row.

Eric Bischoff, who was responsible for bringing the Hulkster to WCW in ’94, then commented on the topic in a Tweet of his own:

“Definitely not having the ‘Hogan effect’. Hulk Hogan drew money and grew our business.”

Bischoff is referring to the fact that Punk’s arrival in AEW had no positive effect on the viewership of AEW’s TV shows (except for his first appearances on Rampage & Dynamite).

Punk, on the other hand, feels the impact of his signing will be seen 5 years from now.
