Why The Bloodline Invaded This Week’s NXT

Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring The Bloodline and SmackDown.

• This week’s episode of NXT kicked off with Axiom & Nathan Frazer defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits.

The match ended in a DQ when Jacob Fatu and WWE Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa of The Bloodline interfered.

You can watch it below:

According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE didn’t want The Street Profits to lose and a title change wasn’t planned, so they went with an interference angle with The Bloodline:

“The decision to have the three be involved in the finish was made when the decision was made to put The Street Profits in the match. There had been talk of having the three do a run-in on NXT even before Miguel & Wentz pulled out, but it wasn’t finalized until they needed a way to get out of the finish there.”

It should be noted that The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel) were originally scheduled to be in this match against Axiom & Frazer. However, the change was made due to Miguel undergoing an unexpected minor surgery this past Sunday.

Heading into NXT’s CW Network era, WWE also wants fans to realize that any main roster star can appear unannounced at any given time.

• SmackDown will premiere on the USA Network tonight and a new logo (tap here to see) is not the only change that WWE’s blue brand is getting.

According to Fightful Select, SmackDown is set to get a new theme song, replacing the current one by def rebel featuring Supreme Madness. It’s rumored that a “legit artist” will provide the new song, though no further details have been shared.

WWE is also planning changes to the show’s ending. Now that SmackDown no longer has to wrap up early for FOX’s local news broadcasts, they have more flexibility with their airtime. USA Network typically allows more leeway for NXT, while RAW hasn’t had overruns in recent years.
