4. Jim Ross Says Conor McGregor Knows Controversy Creates Cash

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross published a blog entry on his website and addressed the Conor Mcgregor – WWE controversy. Below is what JR wrote about this situation:

“On The Ross Report I address thoroughly my thoughts on the recent social media firestorm created when Conor McGregor insulted many pro wrestling fans and some talents in a well placed and timed rant. I did not respond on Twitter even though many asked for my take on this matter. The reason was that I saw McGregor’s acid tongue remarks as nothing more than an attempt to create a buzz in advance of his next UFC PPV fight of which the Irishman can make a significant amount of cash based on the number of PPV buys that are purchased.

McGregor has realized that his remarks are often times polarizing and they spread like wildfire. He has become a great, self promoter of his fights and his own enhanced public persona which is not meant to be an insult in any way. To the contrary, fans of pro wrestling should admire that McGregor is a talented talker like many of the pro wrestling greats in history and who knows how to stir up controversy which creates cash more often than not.”

Speaking of Conor McGregor, WWE posted a poll on their website asking the fans “How do you think Conor McGregor would fare inside a WWE ring?”. Below are the options they gave to vote:

– Unless Raw or SmackDown Live comes up with Featherweight Division, not well.

– The Irishman is tough enough to hold his own inside the squared circle.

– The UFC Featherweight Champion’s MMA skills and trash talking ability would make him a top WWE Superstar.

– McGregor is all talk, he wouldn’t dare step inside the squared circle against a WWE Superstar.

It’s funny how WWE is taking a shot at him being in the Featherweight Division (145 lbs weight limit) and at the same time WWE has wrestlers weighing 145 lbs in the Cruiserweight Classic and 190 lbs wrestlers winning Heavyweight Titles. It should be noted that Conor is 170 lbs nowadays.

Conor will face Nate Diaz in a rematch of their UFC 196 fight (which Conor lost via submission) on August 20th at UFC 202. This fight will be a Welterweight bout (170 lbs).
