Gunther’s chop is known as one of the most brutal moves in professional wrestling today. Many wrestlers hate being on the receiving end of it, as it often leaves their chest red and bruised.
However, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg thinks otherwise. Gunther retired the WCW Legend at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Goldberg’s hometown of Atlanta back in July this year.
During the match, Goldberg started laughing after The Ring General delivered one of his signature chops. Speaking on Real Talk with Mike Burke, the 58-year-old explained his reaction:
“When he hit me with it, I started laughing. I just couldn’t control myself. No, I swear to God, I didn’t do it to demean him or the move. It just instantly… I caught myself going, ‘Man, that wasn’t sh*t.'”

Despite the joke, Goldberg went on to praise Gunther for his professionalism and attitude both in and out of the ring.
“He was a great kid. One of the nicest kids you’re ever going to meet – in or out of the ring. He took great care of me. It was the second longest match I think I ever had.”
Goldberg Takes A Shot At Asuka For Beating His Undefeated Streak
Goldberg had one of the most dominant records in professional wrestling history. His undefeated streak began in WCW in 1997 and ended in 1998 at Starrcade when he lost the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Kevin Nash, bringing an end to an incredible 173-0 run that spanned 552 days.
Asuka broke that record years later after joining WWE in 2015. Her undefeated streak lasted an impressive 914 days, stretching from her NXT debut until her first loss to Charlotte Flair in a SmackDown Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 34.
During this same interview, Goldberg discussed Asuka breaking his record and claimed that WWE booked it on purpose.
“Some girl at WWE. They did it on purpose. I have nothing against the girl, by any means, but yeah.
I was part of WCW when we were kicking their a$$ in the Monday Night Wars. I didn’t know what was going on at the time, I was just on one of the sides. Now, one side dissolves and the other one consumes everything, so they can treat everyone and everything the way they want.
I think there is always going to be the bird in their a$$ that I was part of a company where I was the champion in a very short period of time and we were beating them in the ratings.”
Goldberg retired earlier this year after losing to Gunther in a World Heavyweight Championship match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.
