• Eric Bischoff Reveals Which Wrestling Legend Named The nWo

On the latest episode of his weekly ’83 Weeks’ podcast, WCW Legend Eric Bischoff revealed the name of the WCW official who originally came up with the New World Order (nWo) name in 1996.

Here’s what Easy E had to say:

“Yeah, I mean, there’s no doubt about it. And for years I would tell the story and I, it’s the same story I’ll tell today. When I was in the, basically a janitor closet with Hulk Hogan, going through Hulk’s promo. Because we didn’t, I didn’t give Hulk a script. He didn’t like scripts.

We’d just walk and talk through his promo and I’d give him bullet points and he’d, you know, we’d, he’d give it back to me and I maybe had a little or whatever.

We just worked through it. And that’s the way Hulk always worked with Gene Okerlund and every, it’s the way Hulk liked to work. So I, I was in that closet and I’m giving Hulk his promo, and in the middle of giving him that promo, I say, and then you say, ‘this is the New World Order of Professional Wrestling.’

Now, I’ve told this story before. We found out that Larry used it the night before whenever, and people say, well, where did you get that New World Order from? And I always said, I don’t know. It just rolled off my tongue. I had no idea where it came from. I sounded like I read a book. I’m not a, you know, Illuminati guy and none of that sh*t.

It just came. And it worked. And then whatever it was, years later, we’re going back, and we’re watching, and it was Larry Zbyszko who the day before whatever it was, used, the term New World Order. Then 24 hours later it rolls off my tongue and I didn’t consciously steal it from Larry and not give credit to Larry.

I just didn’t know where I’d heard it or read it. It just rolled. And here we go on 83 weeks going through a show. We went wait a minute. That actually happened before I gave Hulk Hogan the promo. And yes, Larry, I, who else are you gonna give credit to? Kind of obvious.”

‘The Living Legend’ Larry Zbyszko is famous for his WWWF rivalry with his former mentor Bruno Sammartino, as well as being the last ever AWA World Heavyweight Champion in Verne Gagne’s American Wrestling Association.

Zbyszko worked for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling from 1990 until 2000, but during this time he only wrestled till 1994 and a few times in 1997, 1998 & 1999, and worked in non-wrestling roles (as a host of their weekly TV-shows and as an official WCW commentator) between 1994 and 2000.

Old School WCW Legend Rey Mysterio (Real name: Óscar Gutiérrez) celebrates his 48th birthday today.

The legendary Mexican luchador Rey Mysterio Jr. first joined Paul Heyman’s ECW Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion in 1995 before jumping ship to Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling in June of 1996.

His Lucha Libre high flying style revolutionized professional wrestling in the United States during the 90s, by establishing the famous cruiserweight division, in which smaller wrestlers would become a regular part of the business from that point forward.
