The Master of Pain was Mark Calaway’s character, he debuted in the USWA Memphis Wrestling Territory, a gimmick that saw him as an ex-convict fresh out of prison after serving 5 years for killing 2 men in a fight.
On April 1, 1989 The Master of Pain became the undisputed USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, after defeating the promotion’s #1 Babyface, the legendary Jerry “The King” Lawler.
