3. Intercontinental Title Victory, Dropping the title to Bret
At Royal Rumble 1992, Roddy Piper defeated The Mounite to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship. He dropped the belt to Bret Hart at WrestleMania 8 in a classic match. Piper took a hiatus after this match. He would return at SummerSlam but he would disappear again after the event.
2. Feud with Jerry Lawler, Match with Goldust at WrestleMania 12
Piper returned at WrestleMania 10 as guest referee for the WWF Championship match between Bret Hart and Yokozuna. During the match, commentator Jerry “The King” Lawler remarked that he hated Piper and continued to taunt Piper on his King’s Court segment on Raw. The two fought each other at King of the Ring and Piper emerged victorious.
Piper became the interim WWF President in 1996 & decided to “make a man” out of Goldust at WrestleMania 12. They faced each other in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl at WrestleMania 12, which even spread onto the highways of Anaheim. Piper picked up the victory and again left the company.
